{"id":983,"date":"2021-09-07T12:51:01","date_gmt":"2021-09-07T16:51:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ohiosicklecell.org\/new\/?post_type=tribe_events&#038;p=983"},"modified":"2023-09-01T23:20:28","modified_gmt":"2023-09-02T03:20:28","slug":"sickle-cell-sabbath-statewide-oh-september-18-19-2021","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/ohiosicklecell.org\/new\/event\/sickle-cell-sabbath-statewide-oh-september-18-19-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Sickle Cell Sabbath Weekend (Statewide &#8211; Ohio)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sickle Cell Sabbath is an interfaith outreach campaign designed to educate and increase awareness within the faith-based community about sickle cell disease and the need for minority blood donors.\u00a0 Although sickle cell disease affects persons of African ancestry at higher rates, individuals with heritage from Spanish-speaking regions in the Western Hemisphere (South America, the Caribbean, and Central America), the Middle East, India, and Mediterranean countries such as Turkey, Greece, and Italy can also be affected.\u00a0\u00a0The goal of the Sickle Cell Sabbath Campaign is simple:\u00a0 increase the number of available blood donors within these various ethnic groups.<\/p>\n<p>A statewide initiative,\u00a0Sickle Cell Sabbath, is a coordinated, cooperative effort between the ODH Sickle Cell Services Program, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/odh.ohio.gov\/wps\/portal\/gov\/odh\/know-our-programs\/sickle-cell-services\/publications\/regional-projects\">State-Funded Regional Sickle Cell Projects<\/a>, regional blood programs in Ohio (participation may vary), and various statewide and\/or local faith-based groups and organizations.\u00a0 All religious denominations are encouraged to participate.
